Lamin Sanneh, a third-year journalism student of the University of The Gambia, has authored his first book entitled “School Life”, with the aim of discouraging students from drug use, which he observes negatively impacts on their education career.
He said his 55-page book contains scenes of bad habit, sorrow, bad peer influence, drug usage, disappointment, good and bad companionship, sexual immorality and death.
Lamin, however, stressed that he had difficulties in reading and writing around 2014 -2015 but later came to have passion for literature when he was in grade 9.
Like most students who grow the habit of reading, Lamin said his passion for literature was driven from his principal who usually urged them to read and write almost every day. He added that he also liked reading “Areala”, a book by Madam Marie Caroline Gomez an author.
“I love reading and writing because this is what gives me life. I also want to become one of the best authors in the history books. However, I equally care about the drug use among students; how it derails them from their education,’’ he said.
He went on: “Students are into drugs, most especially Marijuana Cannabis. I do see students go behind their school campus and smoke weed, and the same people are involved in crimes in the societies’’.
He said the book educates people about peer bad influence, and that it will have great impact in the lives of students.
“I have to thank the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia for their financial support to me throughout the production of my book. I am also indebted to the University of The Gambia, and as well the students of UTG for their immense support,’’ he stated.
