A Brief History of The Gambia News Agency (GAMNA)
On the 1st January 1986, the Department of Information Services started The Gambia Information News Services (GINS), a predecessor of The Gambia News Agency (GAMNA). This national news agency project was supported by UNESCO’s West African News Agencies Development Project called WANAD and sponsored by the Federal Republic of Germany.
However, The Gambia Government embarked on the structural adjustment programmes known as Economic Recovery Programme (ERP) and the national news agency became one of the entities to suffer the consequences of defunding.
With the leadership will of the new government, The Gambia News Agency (GAMNA) is being revived and would need development cooperation and support to effectively deliver.
Build household and community resilience to address stocks and crisis arising from climate change, economic reality and to counter the efforts of pandemic like the Covid-19
Consolidate gains and address critical development gaps in governance and in economic and social transformation
Strengthen accountability, build partnerships and set up robust and sustainable resource mobilization strategics for effective delivery of development actions and expected outcome
