‘Belgium Friends of Gambia’ Assists with School, Agric, Medical Items Worth D1M

The Belgium Friends of The Gambia (BFoTG), an NGO based in Belgium have supported Gambia with a forty-foot container of school, agricultural and medical items, worth one million Dalasi 

The items, according to Patrick De Vos, the Chairman of the Belgium Friends of The Gambia (BFoTG) will be donated to their sponsored students from lower basic to senior secondary schools, school garden projects, and medical centre within Kanifing Municipality (KM) and West Coast Region (WCR).

Mr.Vos revealed that his organisation is sponsoring over 2000 students including students attending University of The Gambia (UTG) and some tertiary institutions within the Greater Banjul Area.

He named the schools their sponsored students are: Bakoteh Proper, Bakoteh Annex, Bakoteh Upper Basic and Senior Secondary Schools, New Yundum Lower Basic School and Health Centre, St. Therese’s Lower Basic School, Latri-Kunda Upper Basic School, Jambangjelly Day Care and Nursery School, Siffoe Lower Basic School, Nyodema Nursery School.

Asked how long they will stay in the country, Mr. Vos said they will be in the country for two weeks to deliver the items, discuss with the school heads about their sponsors, and finally officially hand over the items to the authorities of the schools.

According to Patrick de Vos, during their two-week stay in the country, they will  be visiting Widdar Nursery School in Kotu, inspect school garden projects and computer labs under their sponsor.

He recalled the early days when his organisation started sponsoring the students attending Nyodema Nursery School, which he said started in 2003 with10 students.

Some of those students BFoTG chairman, Mr. Vos, he added are currently serving in high positions within the various institutions in the country which he said they are proud of.

“BFoTG is the main link between the sponsored students of The Gambia and their friends in Belgium and the organisation is proud to be associated with the future leaders of The Gambia,” Patrick de Vos concluded.
