Lamin Touray, the new chief of Busumbala District has called on the people of his district, especially those close to the Banjul International Airport, to keep their animals, more especially cows, away from the surroundings of the airport or risk facing the consequences.
A good number of cows are seen roaming from the airport end towards Senegambia, along the new OIC road, posing risk to the motorists and the passengers.
The chief made these remarks during his first traditional Koriteh speech at the Lamin football field grounds.
“The Gambia is about to host a very important summit in May this year, which is the OIC Summit. We will be expecting a lot of guests in the country. So their safe arrival and departure in and out of The Gambia is of paramount importance to the government. We cannot allow animals especially cows in the vicinity of the airport and on the highways leading to the conference centre and have traffik interrupted by these stray animals,” he warned.
He called on the owners of these animals to take care of them or face the consequences.
Chief Touray also used the occasion to call on every Gambian to be his or her own police, to ensure maximum security of the delegates during the course of the Summit.
“If you notice any strange movement or things that you don’t understand, report it to the police for action. I am calling on the landlords to be very vigilant as to who they rent their houses or compounds to,” he said.
Mr Touray also called on the people of his district to unite and work towards the development of the district. He concluded by praying for peace and stability in the country.
