On Wednesday, 3rd April 2024, the Honorable Minister of Information, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay received in audience His Excellency Lui Jin, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to The Gambia.
The ambassador’s courtesy visit came right after he presented a cheque for two million Dalasi to the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), in a ceremony held at the GRTS complex, along the MDI Road, on behalf of the Chinese embassy and government.
The presentation of the generous donation is regarded as a solid demonstration of the strong and mutually beneficial relationship shared between the two countries.
The Minister and the Ambassador’s discussion centered on several key areas of mutual interests and potential collaboration; including preparations for the upcoming Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit, the modernisation efforts of GRTS and the strengthening of bilateral ties between The Gambia and China.
Both parties expressed their commitment to advancing cooperation in various sectors, with particular emphasis on media development and infrastructure enhancement.
The Hon. Minister described the visit as a defining moment for not only GRTS, but also for the two countries.
Acknowledging the People’s Republic of China’s support to The Gambia, Minister Ceesay assured The Gambia government’s commitment to strengthening cooperation between the two friendly countries.
The visit concluded with a tour of the GRTS premises.
This significant gesture by the Chinese embassy marks a promising step towards deepening the existing relationship between The Gambia and China, as both countries continue to work hand in hand towards mutual progress.
