Years back, traveling to these parts of the country could take you days due to the bad and deplorable conditions of the road. But, today, within a few hours, one can safely reach his or her destination without difficulties, thanks to the new road which was inaugurated last month to the delight of the communities.

Apart from connecting the towns and villages in that region, the newly constructed road which is about 87km in total, is expected to make healthcare services closer to the people, and boost trade in the region, and education among other issues.

Contrary the belief by some people, that the construction work of the road would not be possible, government has been able to construct such vital roads.

It is worth mentioning for the next five years, the government intends to construct 1,200km of road network throughout the length and breadth of the country, which in fact, has started in earnest.

In a separate but similar development, the people of Kiang West, who were also left without a proper road for the past five decades, are also bracing up for the completion of the 87km of road construction currently taking place in the region.

Thousands of residents are settling in that part of the country but having a good road network was a nightmare for them.  As far as the eye can see, the road work starts from the Sankandi junction passing other villages along the road all the way to Karantaba in the interior of Kiang.

In the early part of this year, His Excellency Adama Barrow launched a series of road projects both in rural and urban Gambia with the sole aim of connecting big towns and villages in step to foster trade and other economic activities throughout the country.

Since coming into power in 2016 to date, the government of the day has constructed and inaugurated a series of road projects in the country and so far, is still continuing to do so for the development of the country.
