Mrs. Damatien L. TCHINTCHIBIDJA, Vice President of the ECOWAS Commission has been speaking about the newly established National Early Warning Centre in The Gambia and its potential of fostering peace and security.
The ECOWAS VP recently paid a visit to The Gambia and met with Gambia authorities including the President and the Vice President of the Gambia.
The National Early Warning Centre, which has now become operational, is part of the eleven national centres out of 15 Member States of the regional bloc, with plans to have regional centre at based in Abuja, Nigeria, the headquarters base of ECOWAS.
During her courtesy call on the Vice President Mohammed BS Jallow, Madam TCHINTCHIBIDJA said human security is at the core, and heart of their mandate, and that the National Early Warning Centre is needed to be fully operational and fully capacitated, to allow it play its role in enhancing national peace and security.
“It is important that we provide that support to The Gambia and to all our Member States when it comes to peace and security,’’ she stressed.
She said the VP was well informed of the Early Warning apparatus here in The Gambia and that he supports the initiative and strongly feels that they needed to be reinforced.
In his remarks Vice President Jallow recognised ECOWAS for being supportive to The Gambia government in many ways including in the area of security .
Madam Damatien L. TCHINTCHIBIDJA disclosed that she was in the country at the invitation of His Excellency President Adama Barrow for the launch of Women Leaders Network, and took the opportunity to discuss few ECOWAS-initiated projects in country, which entail regional stabilisation, empowering youth and women to become productive members of society and their development.
