The Fatou Bah Barrow Foundation in partnership with Qgroup Foundation presented cash and baby pans to the first, second and third babies of the year at the Soma District Hospital. The Presentation ceremony was attended by the regional governor Seedy Lamin-Bah.
26-year-old Fatoumata Binta Jallow of Jarra Pakalinding gave birth to the first baby of the year 2024 at the Soma District Hospital at 12: 08 am.
The newborn baby boy weighed 2.9 kg, while 30-year-old Mariama Jallow of Sara Bafaye gave birth to the second baby, also a boy weighing 2.7 kg.
The first baby received twenty-five thousand Dalasis and a baby pan whilst the second baby received twenty thousand Dalasis and a baby pan.
Mothers of the babies thanked the Foundation and Health personnel for the services and support, saying the gesture will help in the upkeep of the babies.
The Head of the Maternity ward at Soma District Hospital Yaya Darboe expressed delight to FaBB Foundation and partners for the gesture and called on women to regularly visit hospitals for maternal health services.
Alagie K. Mbaye, Board member of FaBB thanked their partners for complementing the efforts of the Foundation and first lady in particular; calling on Gambians to reflect on achievements delivered by the foundation in the past year’s to strengthen health and education.
The Regional Governor of the Lower River region Seedy Lamin-Bah assured of the foundation’s support to maternal health services, advising parents to judiciously utilise the support provided to them.
The Chairman of Soma District Hospital Chief Alhagie Yahya Jarjusey; and Omar Kuyateh, officer-in-Charge of the hospital, both thanked FaBB Foundation and partners for the gesture, and seized the opportunity to seek support from the Foundation to construct staff quarters and other units as the hospital is now promoted from a district health centre to a district hospital.
