Yesterday, March 19th fire broke out in a house in Basse Sandu, Upper River Region, leaving a trail of wanton destruction after their two-month worth food store was totally burnt.
Saabu Drammeh, landlord and victim of the inferno, said although there is no casualty, his family is left with nothing as far feeding is concerned.
“I shocked when my neighbors told me that my house was on fire. I was devastated; I swiftly rushed home and found neighbours already on the ground trying to put out the fire”. He informed that one of his wives and the kids went to the farms to work, while the other wife was just arriving home when this unfortunate incident happened.
The landlord said he could not tell the cause of the fire but lamented the fact that no fire and rescue service is nearby for timely intervention in such incidents.
“It is rather unfortunate that we don’t have fire-service and firefighters around this end and the one that is currently available is 5 kilometers away from our village in Basse Sandu,” he shared.
