Banjul, 16 January 2026: The Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, H.E Sering Modou Njie has held a bilateral meeting with His Excellency, Waleed A. Elkhereiji , Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on the margins of the 22nd Extraordinary Emergency Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), convened in Jeddah.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to review the state of the longstanding and cordial relations between The Gambia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, founded on shared values, mutual respect, and solidarity within the OIC framework. Discussions focused on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas of mutual interest, including political consultation, economic cooperation, development assistance, trade, investment, and capacity building.
FM Njie expressed appreciation to the Government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their continued support to The Gambia, particularly in the areas of development cooperation and humanitarian assistance. The Vice Minister reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation with The Gambia in support of its national development priorities.
Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern, including matters discussed at the Extraordinary OIC CFM meeting, and underscored the importance of continued coordination and solidarity among OIC Member States in addressing pressing global and regional challenges.
Present at the meeting were His Excellency Mambury Njie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of The Gambia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and His Excellency Ambassador Ebou Ndure, Consul General of the Republic of The Gambia in Jeddah.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to sustain high-level engagement and to work closely towards further consolidating the strong and friendly relations between the Republic of The Gambia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
