The Minister of Defence Sering Modou Njie recently received in audience at his office in Banjul, the Inspector General of the Senegalese Armed Forces, Major General Philip Jah and his high-powered delegation. The delegation was in The Gambia on a routine inspection of the Senegalese troops on deployment in the country under the ECOMIG.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Mrs. Rohie Bittaye Darboe welcomed the Senegalese military officials and underscored the significance of the bilateral cooperation between the two sister countries; particularly in the areas of security and defence.
She went on to state that the strong corporation between the two Armed Forces will go a long way towards generating mutual benefits for both countries and the sub-region by extension.
Speaking at the event, Defence Minister Njie on behalf of President and Commander-In-Chief of the Gambia Armed Forces, Adama Barrow, extended warmest greetings to Major General Jah and the delegation.
He highlighted the numerous benefits both countries reaped from their strong partnerships and urged for stronger defence collaborations between the two nations’ armed forces.
For his part, the Inspector General of the Senegalese Armed Forces, Major General Philip Jah expressed sincere appreciation for the warm reception accorded him and members of his delegation.
“The long-standing relationship between the Gambia and Senegal has been the basis for mutual cooperation that yielded tangible results over the years,” Major General Jah remarked. He went on: “It is thus paramount that both countries continue to work collaboratively in establishing stronger partnerships for the benefit of all parties involved”.
Present at the meeting was the ECOMIG Commander in the Gambia, Colonel Tamba, the Inspector General of the Gambia Armed Forces Lieutenant Colonel Baboucar Sanyang and the Military Assistant to the Minister of Defence Commander Adama Trawalleh.
