On the sidelines of the OIC Banjul Summit, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (MoCDE) on Friday, May 3rd signed a 180,000-dollar grant agreement with the ECOWAS Commission, at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo. The grant is meant to support The Gambia’s digital innovation and e-governance.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Omar Touray, the ECOWAS Commission President, affirmed that the grant aims to boost digital innovation and empowerment of the citizenry.
He said ECOWAS has given close to D130 million in support across various areas in the past two years, assuring of the Commission’s continuous support and collaboration.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ousman Bah, thanked the ECOWAS Commission for the unwavering support rendered to The Gambia. He said the 16-million-dalasi grant will help digitalise public service and promote digital governance in the country.
Dr Ismaila Ceesay, the Minister of Information, thanked the ECOWAS president for his dedication to supporting member states, especially The Gambia. He extended President Adama Barrow’s gratitude to the ECOWAS delegation.
