As part of efforts to enhance the income generation capacity and promote the economic independence of women through horticulture, The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Madam Fatou Kinteh met with a prominent woman, Horticulturist. Mba Rokie Gassama of Jokadou Dasilameh
The aim of the engagement was to share a common vision of facilitating processing, storage and marketing opportunities for women vegetable producers.
The Hon Minister expressed her commitment to ensure that vegetable growers of Dasilameh and Daru-FodayBa are supported with high yield and quality seeds to boost production and productivity.
She gave the assurance that her Ministry will continue to work with the Department of Horticulture, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to facilitate access to seeds as well as create marketing opportunities for the onions and other produce through the utilization of what she referred to as the “Thursday Lumo Opportunity Initiative” to be facilitated by the Directorate of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.
