Banjul, 27th November 2025: The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services (GFRS) recently observed its 22nd Fire Service Open Day Celebration in Bansang, Central River Region(CRR).
This year’s event was held under the theme “Promoting Fire Safety is Protecting Communities,” highlighting the vital role firefighters play in preventing fire outbreaks and responding to emergencies across the country.
Delivering a statement on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Abdoulie Sanyang, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Matarr Ceesay, began by expressing heartfelt appreciation to the Governor of the Central River Region (CRR) for hosting what he described as a significant and auspicious national event.
“This occasion is more than an exhibition of firefighting equipment and skills. It is a moment of reflection a time to recognize the invaluable contribution of our firefighters to the safety, security, and well-being of our nation,” PS Ceesay remarked.
He noted that the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services, under the Ministry of Interior, remains a key pillar in national safety due to its frontline role in protecting lives and property. Highlighting government efforts, PS Ceesay stressed that major reforms have been introduced to modernize the GFRS, including capacity-building programs, provision of essential equipment, and enhanced welfare for officers.
In conclusion, PS Ceesay expressed gratitude to Avon Fire and Rescue Services, NGO Starup in the Canary Islands, and regional partners such as the Brigade Nationale des Sapeurs-Pompiers for their continued collaboration and support to the GFRS.
He further reaffirmed the Government of The Gambia’s unwavering commitment through the Ministry of Interior to strengthening the capacity of the Gambia Fire and Rescue Services to effectively safeguard communities across the country.
