The Gambia Girls Guide Association, last week received substantial donation from Sharing Wonders, a Dubai-based organization, at a ceremony held at the Girls Guide Centre at Kanifing.
The donated items, which include mattresses, foodstuffs, a refrigerator, and sewing machines, are meant to enhance girls’ education in The Gambia and foster the development of their skills for a meaningful and sustainable life.
Chief Commissioner of The Gambia Girls Guide Association, Mrs. Khadijatou A. Jorbateh, expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasising its positive impact on both teaching and learning processes, a well as the refurbishment of the centre.
She further highlighted the importance of acquiring skills, noting the Association’s pertinent role in enabling girls to integrate into society and become self-reliant.
“Some time ago, we lack some materials and fortunately they brought some materials that are going to help us for the development of the school. In fact, we had problems of chairs but now we have enough chairs and sewing machines and hoping to receive more machines,” she stated.
Amie Ceesay, a guider at the centre, conveyed appreciation to the donors for their support in empowering girls to contribute significantly to societal advancement.
Satang Jobarteh, a guide member, also expressed delight and gratitude, citing previous donations that have greatly benefited the centre.
Hawa Sowe and Juhainatou Jallow, students and guide members, echoed their appreciation for the donated materials, praising the donors for their continuing support.
