GT-Board Gets New Governing Council

The Minister of Tourism and Culture, Abdoulie Jobe, on Wednesday, 8th May, 2024 inaugurated the new governing council of The Gambia Tourism Board at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in Banjul. 
The governing council is responsible for guiding and directing the management of the Gambia Tourism Board for the advancement of the tourism sector in the country.
 Speaking during the inauguration, the Minister thanked the newly appointed members for accepting the challenge of becoming part of the board for the next three years.
He implored them to look into issues that are posing challenge to the tourism sector; such as ensuring that the beaches are clean, the provision of solar street lights around the beaches, and ensuring that there is enough security patrol on the beaches.
“My focus is on marketing and promotion of Destination Gambia. This is in line with the national development plan ‘Yiriwa’ and the GT-Board Act, 2011,” he said.
Minister Jobe indicated that the governing council would help guide the GT-Board management operate within the laws of the land and be a pillar for the management to lean on to execute their functions as expected.   
He finally assured the new board of his office’s support and open-door policy.
Meanwhile, Mr. Samba Batch Fye is the new chairman of the board, while Francis A.Njie and Ida Cham Njai are members.
Representatives from The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority and that of The Gambia Investment & Export Promotion Agency, will serve as ex-officio board members. George Innis of The Gambia Tourism Board is the secretary to the governing council.
Mrs. Cordu L. Jabang-Senghore, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, chaired the ceremony.
