The Ministry of Health through the National Health Insurance Authority, recently announced the offi-cial launch of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This launching marks a monumental step to wards the mission to provide accessible and affordable healthcare for all citizens by signing con-tracts with 10 selected health facilities across the seven (7) Health Region in the country.
These esteemed facilities include EFSTH, Kanifing General Hospital, Bundung Maternal and Child Health Hos-pital, Brikama District Hospital, Bwiam General Hospital, Soma District Hospital, Bansang General Hospital, Basse District Hospital, Kuntair Major Health Centre, and Farafenni General Hospital.
For his part the Chief Executive, NHIAMr Bai Mass Saine underscored the importance of the National Health Insurence Scheme highlighted that ,the launch of the Health Insurance Scheme will mark as a crucial mo-ment in the country’s healthcare landscape.
“I am deeply proud to witness this significant step towards ensuring universal access to quality healthcare for all citizens” He noted.
He added that, the NHIS roll-out does not only signifies their commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of the population but also represents a fundamental shift towards a more equitable and inclusive healthcare system.
The Director of Services Dr Hassan Njie states that the initiative underscores their dedication to leaving no one behind and as well serves as a beacon of hope for a healthier, more resilient society”.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of health Dr Omar Jah, stated that the launching signifies a huge step to-wards the ministry’s mission to providing accessible and affordable healthcare for all citizens.
The inauguration and contract signing ceremony for the NHIS Roll-Out signifies a significant milestone in the health ministry’s relentless pursuit to ensure that every individual in our nation has access to quality healthcare services.
To partake in the NHIS Rollout under the contract agreement, individuals must meet specific eligibility crite-ria, including pregnant women admitted to the labor ward for delivery, registered newborns (up to 7 days for normal delivery and 10 days for cesarean delivery), and post-partum mothers (up to 7 days for normal deliv-ery and 10 days for cesarean delivery).
