The International Court of Justice in The Hague on Monday, 12 January 2026, began public hearings in the case brought by The Gambia against Myanmar concerning alleged violations of the Genocide Convention. The hearings are scheduled to run from 12 January to 29 January 2026. |
The Government of The Gambia is proceeding with this case in line with international law, seeking accountability through lawful and peaceful judicial processes where there are credible allegations of serious crimes against civilian populations.
The Ministry of Justice says it respects the independence of the International Court of Justice and the procedures governing these proceedings. It promised to continue to support the legal team representing The Gambia and to uphold transparency and due process throughout the hearings.
This case is a firm stance on enforcing international legal obligations and strengthening global standards that protect human dignity and fundamental human rights.
