A delegation representing Kims Hospital in India recently embarked on a diplomatic mission to The Gambia, seeking cooperation in the healthcare sector.
Last week, The Gambia’s High Commissioner to India, Mr. Mustapha Jawara, led the Indian delegation to the Office of the Vice President, where they held discussions withVice President Mohammed BS Jallow.
The primary objective of the visit was to solidify a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Kims Hospital and the Ministry of Health. This milestone agreement aims to foster a robust partnership focused on enhancing healthcare services within The Gambia healthcare system.
Central to the MOU are provisions to equip government hospitals with medical equipment and resources. This move is expected to elevate the standard of care and improve patient outcomes throughout the country.
The Hospital authorities expressed commitment to undertaking ambitious projects to address the growing healthcare needs of The Gambia. Plans include the establishment of new hospitals strategically located to ensure accessibility to quality healthcare for all citizens.
Dr. Rakesh Jalla, of International Business and Projects from Kims Hospital, informed that their main focus is to make sure Gambians would not need to travel all the way to India for surgeries such as kidney transplant and cardiac surgeries.
‘‘We want to bring modern facilities here so that patients would not need to move out of The Gambia. We also want to take a team to India, train them on how to use these machines before bringing them to the country so that they could help with this initiative,’’ he said.
Vice President reiterated government’s support to promoting quality healthcare in the country.
He emphasised the significance of international partnerships in advancing public health initiatives.
