The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) in collaboration with Africell on Wednesday, December 14th inaugurated the Traffic Light Park, which consist of a basketball court and an open gym, track and outdoor amenities.
In praise of partners Africell at the event, Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda said the GSM giant has shown that it cares about the community; and that it does not stop at talking about it but also shows it to the populace.
He mentioned the commencement of the Kanifing Environmental Transformation Programme (KETP), which aims to develop seven community parks across the Kanifing Municipality (KM).
Mayor Bendsouda informed that works have started at the community parks; and that foundation stones were laid one month ago.
“This facility and all facilities that KMC will build are going to be free of charge. They are by the community, for the community and supported by Africell,’’ he said.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Africell Gambia Limited, Hussein Diab Ghanem, said they launched Africell Impact Foundation in a bid to structure cooperate social responsibility and to make sure all their community projects have an impact.
The CEO added that the foundation thrives on four pillars; namely, promoting entrepreneurship and education, preserving the natural environment and disaster relief, promoting Gambian artist, culture and heritage as well as promoting health, sports and well-being.
