The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) on Tuesday handed over 90 footballs to the six zones under its purview. Each zone received 15 footballs for the upcoming “Nawettan’’ season.
The Mayor of KMC, Talib Ahmed Bensouda said the footballs were donated in order to promote grassroots football. He called on stakeholders to invest in sports, saying it is a lucrative business and it can help to achieve national and international awards.
Mayor Bensouda informed that KMC will begin the construction of seven parks this year and that the construction will commence next month.
“Each park will have a football pitch, which is going to be set aside for football. It will also have a gym ground, playing ground for kids and basketball courts,’’ he said.
The Ward Councilor for Tallinding North, Babucarr Mansally, who doubles as the Chair of KMC Sports Committee, applauded the KMC for the donation, noting that it will help in the promotion of grassroots football in the zones.
The President of Manjai Zone, Mr. Sawaneh expressed appreciation and gratitude to KMC for the gesture, describing it as timely. He urged others to emulate KMC and assured that the footballs will go a long way towards promoting and developing football in KMC.
