According to a press release from government through the Government Spokesperson, Ebrima G Sankareh, effective immediately, the Ministry of Lands, Regional Government, and Religious Affairs has suspended all allocations and construction activities within the protected Tambi Wetland at Cape Point, in the Kanifing Municipality.
The authorities say “the move is in response to very troubling land transactions that pose a potential danger to this protected wetland, marine resources as well as residents of Cape Point and surrounding areas”.
“Accordingly, the Lands Ministry is establishing a taskforce to investigate these violations comprehensively.
Working closely with the Ministry of Environment, the Ministerial Taskforce will ensure that the Tambi Wetland remains safeguarded against any further violations,” the release indicated.
It added that the taskforce will also guide strategic actions to prevent future unauthorised transactions and preserve the Tambi Wetland’s serene ecosystem.
