By Lamin Kujabi

The President of Medical and Dental Association of The Gambia (MDA) Dr. Lamin Jaiteh has pointed out the need to consider the welfare of doctors and health workers to increase the efficiency of work and the quality of service delivery.
Dr Jaiteh said this last week when he led the executive of the association to State House, where they updated President Adama Barrow, on the work and activities of the association.
The Association is conventional to strive for a healthy population in The Gambia that has access to quality health care services provided by competent, knowledgeable and registered medical and dental practitioners.
Dr Jaiteh said their meeting is aligned to the association’s functions and the government’s vision to improve health care for Gambians and people living in The Gambia.
“The association ensures adequate training of medical and dental practitioners to meet the required ethical and professional standards and conduct of practice for safe service delivery to the public,” he further asserted.
President Barrow assured of his government’s continual support to the Association and the health sector in general. He added that it is the responsibility of each and everyone to contribute to the development of the health sector.
While the Association was founded in August 1980, the Medical and Dental Council (MDCG) was established by an Act of Parliament - the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act of 1988, with the mandate to ensure the provision of safe, trusted, high-quality healthcare to the people of The Gambia. The Council operates through Statutory (Disciplinary Committee) and Standing Committees (Accreditation & Registration Committee, Finance & General Purposes Committee, Education & Research Committee, and Ad-Hoc Committee). It serves as adviser to government and Non-Governmental Organisations in the country, and ensures that the system delivers the best possible healthcare outcomes for the people of the country.
The MDCG is committed to regulating the profession and practice of medicine and dentistry in The Gambia.
