The Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah has embarked on a tour of infrastructural projects that his Ministry is overseeing.
In his remarks during a visit to the North Bank Region – destination of the iconic village of Juffureh and the historic Kunta Kinteh Island, the Minister links the importance of good road network to growth of tourism, as he spoke of the roads being constructed in the tourism attraction areas of the historic community.
“Juffureh is a community that holds significant importance in our history; it is therefore crucial to construct the roads …[there],” he remarked.
The Minister informed that the community of Juffureh will be a beneficiary of three feeder roads, in a bid to boost tourism, socio-economic and cultural development in the area.
He affirmed that these areas are tourist attraction places; that thousands of tourists visit the Island annually, thereby greatly contributing to the country‘s economy.
“The quality of the roads being constructed is not different from the ones that we are currently working on along the Bertil Harding Highway,“ he asserted.
The other road being constructed in the North Bank Region, is the Hakalang road, which stretched from Buniadou, Kuntaya through Chila, Albreda, Fass Chaho, Bangali, Bafulo to Jurunku.
Mr Abdoulie Njie, a resident of North Bank Region, said they are excited that the Barrow Government is making the movement of people, goods and services accessible by constructing roads.
“We were neglected by the past governments but thanks to President Barrow’s foresight, development is being brought about in the form of good roads that connect communities and improve livelihoods,“ Njie relishes.
