The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) in collaboration with the Central Project Coordinating Unit (CPCU) has handed over dairy equipment to the communities of Kudang, Njau, and Sankandi.
During the handing-over ceremony, the three communities each received four coolers, two measuring cups each, five diary spoons each, 20 scaling machines each, two buckets each, 500 packaging pots each, 20 plastic chairs each, 20 pairs of gloves each, two gas tanks each, two freezers each, and three gas cylinders each.
Sheikh Tijan Sosseh, CPCU informed the gathering that the Diary Centre in Kudang, CRR was once rehabilitated by P2RS, a project under the CPCU.
This initiative, he noted is meant to improve milk processing to support the lives and livelihood of people, especially the women, and youth.
Lamin Sidibeh, Livestock Officer at Kudang, noted the significance of the gesture, saying it will boost their milk production, especially during the dry season since most of the cattle migrate around their region.
“We have an abundance of milk in this region but it is something that we are unable to sustain due to our lack of resources to process the milk to add value,” he stated.
Sutay Njie, a retired civil servant, stressed that the reason they have not yet started yogurt production in the Diary Centre was because they lacked most of the materials that are involved in the process.
“The structure at the centre is also facing some rehabilitation problems especially when it comes to the roofing and the borehole, leaving us to be fetching water from the neighbors, which is quite challenging,” he said.
He thanked the Ministry of Agriculture and the Central Project Coordinating Unit for their timely intervention in the centre while hoping that other issues that are raised will also be put to consideration.
