MoBSE Honours Gambia Teacher Prize 2024 Winners

On Friday, April 5th, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) presented certificates and laptops to both national and regional winners of the Namie Foundation Gambia Teacher Prize 2024.
This event, held at the Ministry’s conference hall, marked the fulfillment of a commitment made during the inaugural award night at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in February, to support them in their research and to enhance their service delivery.
Presiding over the presentation ceremony, Haddy Jatou Sey, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, emphasised the significance of quality teacher training in achieving education outcomes. She affirmed her commitment to supporting teachers’ professional development, recognising their vital role in the country’s development. “I personally believe that teachers are the key to the success of every single student in this country and worldwide,” Hon. Sey stated.
The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ebrima Sisawo, acknowledged the significance of honouring high-performing teachers as a source of inspiration for the education sector. He noted that the award symbolises recognition of teachers’ efforts and expressed hope that it will motivate awardees and others to continue improving education outcomes.
The Chairman of the Public Service Commission, Mr. Babucarr Suwareh, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, and the Namie Foundation for recognising teachers’ contributions to the education sector. He pledged continual support of the commission to the education sector, and urged the ministry and partners to continue supporting teachers.
Alpha Bah, representing the Gambia Teachers’ Union (GTU), affirmed commitment to continue collaborating with MoBSE and the Namie Foundation to support initiatives benefiting the education sector. He encouraged awardees to inspire more teachers to achieve success, in order to ensure a professional and high-quality teacher body to enhance education standards.
Muhammed Mustapha Jagne, the national award winner, gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the awardees.
The ceremony also witnessed the presence of senior MoBSE officials, Dr Henrietta Sonko of MRC Holland Foundation.
