Following the analysis of the broad impacts of the return of migrants from Mauritania, The Gambia Diaspora & Migration Directorate with support from IOM, recently led a technical mission comprising key stakeholders of the Government of The Gambia to Mauritania. The mission was to ensure timely access to information and a coordinated approach to migration governance between The Gambia and the competent Mauritanian authorities, as well as address gaps in facilitating access to consular assistance and the manner irregular Gambian migrants, including those intercepted off the coast of Mauritania are returned.
The visit has also availed the delegation the opportunity to interact with various stakeholders of migration in Mauritania and at the same establish contacts aimed at ensuring a well-structured approach in addressing and curbing irregular migration especially along the Mauritanian coast.
