The Communication Taskforce of the Ministry of Interior, on Tuesday 6th September, 2022 met at the ministry’s complex to discuss and identify the required digital communication equipment for the implementation of an Integrated Radio Communication System for the ministry and its line departments.
The project aims to support the security institutions in the execution of an integrated communication system to ensure security is at the door steps of the citizens. This will improve sharing of information among security institutions to enhance security service delivery in the country.
Chairing the meeting, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Technical) of the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Gibril Lowe, said the project will strengthen a joint cooperation among the security institutions towards ensuring a safe and secure environment within the country. He thanked members of the Taskforce for honoring the Ministry’s invitation and encouraged the members to work collectively towards attaining the project.
In a similar engagement, the committee on the regulation of the use of drones, chaired by the Ministry of Interior and comprising all relevant stakeholders recently met at the ministry to set up a regulatory framework to control the use of drones in The Gambia. The proposed regulation will ensure the safe usage of drones.
Initially, there was no Act that included the use of drones exclusively but it was generalised in the GCAA Act. Drones need to be inspected by security agents of the country, notably the police, to ensure that they are only used for domestic purposes and are not capable of being weaponised.
The regulation would also indicate, clearly, the no-fly zones of drones to ensure that they are monitored every day.
