National TVET Committee Members Review TVET Policy Master Plan

The National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Committee members recently reviewed the draft master plan of the National TVET Policy.

The activity took place during the 15th National TVET Committee meeting conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, at the Ministry’s complex in Bijilo.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary, Technical of MoHERST, Mucktarr M.Y Darboe chaired the meeting. He noted that the right tools and policies have been created by the Government of The Gambia and partners to ensure that TVET is promoted across the country, including the development of the National TVET Policy and TVET Roadmap.

Fatou Janneh, Tertiary and Higher Education Officer and Focal Person of the MoHERST TVET Unit underscored the significance of having a masterplan that will guide the implementation of components identified in the National TVET Policy. She thanked the International Trade Centre (ITC) for their continuous support; and the committee members for their consistency and vital participation in the meetings.

Mr Momodou Touray, Technical Adviser to the Gambia Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) extended gratitude to MoHERST for coordinating the TVET Committee meetings while emphasising that the committee should continue to work on coordinating all projects and programmes in the TVET Sector.

The Masterplan supports the nine thematic areas of the TVET Policy document. These include: Governance of TVET, Access to TVET, Relevance of TVET, Apprenticeship and On-the-Job Training, Digitalisation of TVET, Funding of TVET, TVET Data Management, Integration into the Job Market, and TVET Attractiveness
