Vice President B.S Jallow, visited the National Youth Parliament’s (NYP) office in Kanifing, following his insightful meeting with The Gambia Red Cross Society
The visit availed VP Jallow the opportunity for a fruitful discussion on various topics, ranging from the NYP’s scope of work, youth empowerment, the recovery-focused National Development Plan, and the pressing issue of irregular migration.
Hon. Omar Cham, the Speaker of NYP, expressed delight at the presence of the Vice President.
“For the first time, a Vice President is visiting our office. This sends a message that young people are important,” he conveyed with enthusiasm.
Furthermore, Hon. Cham took the opportunity to discuss some areas in need of support; notably, the establishment of a resource centre dedicated to the empowerment of young people within their office.
The Vice President expressed his satisfaction and emphasised that his visit was a fulfillment of the promise made during the NYP’s courtesy call at his office on November 7th, 2023. He underscored the pivotal role of youth in national development, stating, “Without the youth, we cannot develop as a country.” This sentiment underscored his commitment to always respond to the needs and aspirations of young people.
Hon. Omar Cham’s appeal for support in establishing a resource centre resonated positively with the Vice President. He highlighted the importance of such a centre in keeping the youth engaged and occupied, recognising it as a vital component for national progress. He assured of the full support of government
