The new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, designated to The Gambia, His Excellency Klaus Botzet recently presented his letter of credence to His Excellency President Adama Barrow at State House, where the two dignitaries discussed some crucial areas of potential cooperation. These include: security sector reforms, vocational training in higher education, health and education for young Gambians and employment opportunities.
The Ambassador expressed great honour and pleasure to have been the first German ambassador to present his letter of credence in The Gambia and covering four countries, and promised to work towards elevating the cordial relation between the two countries to a higher level.
On the security sector reform, Ambassador Klaus Botzet mentioned his interest and the need for capacity building of security personnel and provision of equipment in both hard and software.
He affirmed that The Gambia has become more important for Germany, as it has transitioned to democracy, enjoying political stability in the region and developing to further support its citizens.
He reminded that the German President visited The Gambia in 2019 and the two head of state discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
“The first commitment is to elevate this relation to a new level exchanging ambassadors and having embassies in each other’s country and have cooperation programmes,” he stated.
The Ambassador was accompanied to State House by Ms. Tanya Roy, Deputy Chief of Mission; Ms. Dominique Buchholz, Political Affairs and Public Relations; and Mariam Khan Jallow, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
