New Minister of Interior Sanyang formally takes over from Hon. Sonko

On 20th March 2024, Hon. Minister, Abdoulie Sanyang formally took over the mantle of leadership at the Ministry of Interior, from his predecessor Hon. Seyaka Sonko.
The Ministry of Interior bade farewell to the outgoing minister, Sonko, who was relieved of his ministerial duties on 15th March 2024, following a cabinet reshuffle by His Excellency President Adama Barrow.
During the handing over, the incoming and outgoing ministers described each other as brothers who were working for the same common goal, which is to ensure that the government of President Adama Barrrow succeeds.
The incoming Minister Sanyang assured the staff of the Ministry of continuity from where his predecessor stopped.
“In life, no condition is permanent. Movement is normal, and we should accept it in good faith,” he stated.
He also consoled the staff, who were emotional over the departure of his predecessor, and thanked the outgoing minister for being a professional and a doyen in police service.
For his part, the outgoing minister of Interior, Seyaka Sonko thanked the staff of the ministry for being dedicated and professional in executing their work, and asked for forgiveness.
“My second appeal would be to kindly receive my successor and brother with open arms. He is a professional and perfectionist,” Sonko said of Sanyang.
The Principal Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Kebba Nfally Darbo, who gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the staff, described Hon. Seyaka Sonko as a kind-hearted man who believes in team work, and that he was jovial, accommodating and caring. He noted that it will be difficult to mention all what Mr. Sonko has been doing at the ministry and his working relationship with staff.
Mr. Darbo welcomed the incoming minister Sanyang to the ministry and informed him that the ministry staff are at his disposal to make good use of their ability and capability.
The outgoing minister was presented with goodies out of the contribution of the staff as a token of appreciation.
