The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MOBSE) Louis Moses Mendy has assured the Christian community in The Gambia that President Barrow’s government will continue to give the political will to the Christian community in The Gambia to manifest their religious beliefs without any hindrance. He said his ministry is no doubt happy to encourage the learning of local languages in schools across the country.
The Education PS made this remark recently at the launching of Bible written in the Jola language dubed (Karuukenak Kati BaibleyYatiKujaatak) in Kampant, Foni.
The Permanent Secretary said he is happy that the Bible has been completed in the Jola language beside the Wolof. The P S said as an educationist he is pleased with this accomplishment. He pointed out that the Bible is the most central thing in the life of every Christian. “As a Christian you never have joy without the Bible,” Mendy told the gathering. “When you work around,” he continues, “People must see the bible in you”. He appealed to the Christian community to continue to be proactive in their Christian life everywhere they go.
In his key note address at the occasion, the bishop of the Methodist Mission in The Gambia, Bishop Bannie E.F Manga said in this sinful world, the Bible is needed to correct the evil in it. “The Bible is a moral guide because we live in a society that do not differentiate bad from good; and where society fails the Bible comes to correct it,” the Bishop said.
The Methodist Bishop hailed those who worked on the Bible. He said having the Bible in the Jola language would enlighten the native and speakers of Jola and humanity as a whole. “Because the Jolas have their roots in all regions in the world,” Bishop Manga asserted.
The occasion was graced by a cross-section of the Christian Community in The Gambia and missionaries.
