President Barrow Bids Farewell to Outgoing Russian Ambassador

Banjul, 12 May 2026: His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Friday 8th May received and bade farewell to His Excellency Mr. Dmitry Kurakov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to The Gambia, at the State House in Banjul, following the completion of his diplomatic duty.
Ambassador Kurakov has served as Russia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to The Gambia for six years.
Speaking to journalists after the farewell courtesy call, Ambassador Kurakov expressed gratitude to the President and the Government of The Gambia for their support throughout his tenure.
“This courtesy call is to thank the President and the Government of The Gambia for supporting me in doing my work as Ambassador of Russia to The Gambia,” he said.
He noted that his departure marks the end of his official assignment in the country.
“I will leave very soon because I have come to the end of my duty as Ambassador and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to The Gambia,” he stated.
Ambassador Kurakov further expressed appreciation for the cordial relations he enjoyed during his stay, thanking Gambians for their hospitality and friendship.
“I also want to thank all Gambians for the friendship they have shown me during my six years as Ambassador of the Russian Federation to The Gambia,” he added.
The farewell engagement underscored the longstanding diplomatic relations between The Gambia and the Russian Federation.
