Chief Yaya Jarjusey of Jarra East and Soma Mosque Committee Members, recently visited His Excellency President Adama Barrow at State House in Banjul,to thank him for his contribution to the completion of the construction of the new mosque in Soma.
After expressing their appreciation to the President, Yaya Jarjusey, Chief of Jarra East affirmed to journalists that the President has contributed a lot to the completion of the mosque and that the people of Soma are happy.
Imam Saikou Kanteh of Soma Mosque also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the President for his support.
Abdou Jarjusey, Chairman, Mosque Committee member explained that the community had initially wanted to renovate the mosque. He said after they prepared a budget, he said, they realised that it will cost them up to D10 million.
The Chairman reported that while the amount spent on the construction of the mosque is about D20 million, mainly from contributions from the diaspora, the President’s personal contribution was over D 5.5 million, while his other contributions through other people amounted to about D4 million.
