State Intelligence Service Briefs the Media on Nationwide Security Assessment

Banjul, 4 December, 2025: On Friday, November 28, 2025, the State Intelligence Service (SIS) held a press briefing at its headquarters, providing insights into the recently concluded nationwide security assessment tour.  Addressing the media The Director General of SIS  shared details of the three week tour that covered various regions, including NBR, CRR, URR, and LRR. Highlighting that, the primary objective of the tour was to enhance inter-agency collaboration and evaluate the national security landscape. The DG expressed gratitude to all SIS staff who accompanied him and acknowledged the support of sister security services.
The tour involved engagements with critical stakeholders across the country, including governors, heads of security services, district chiefs, local authorities, community leaders, youth, and elders. The DG said that, the main aims of the tour were to “strengthen the implementation of the National Security Belt Initiative (NASBI)”, designed to enhance intelligence collection, improve border security, and ensure community safety. The tour also aimed to foster public trust and enhance engagement with the media.   
“The general assessment of the security landscape revealed an atmosphere of calm and stability”, with strong inter-agency collaboration among security services. However, challenges particularly in border security, were acknowledged. The tour visited all administrative regions of The Gambia, including various locations and border posts. Discussions centered on strengthening inter-service collaboration, maintaining peace and security, and the role of faith-based organizations and civil society in peacebuilding. Strategic partnerships with the University of The Gambia, Supreme Islamic Counci, NALOA, TANGO and the National Human Rights Commission were also discussed.
According to the DG, “The tour was a success in identifying key areas for improvement and strengthening our collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and security of our nation.” The DG further elaborated on specific areas of focus, stating, “We are particularly focused on enhancing our border security measures and improving intelligence gathering capabilities to address emerging threats.” He also highlighted the importance of community engagement, adding, “Our partnerships with local communities are crucial in maintaining peace and stability.”
