The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of The Gambia Police force Cadet Assistant Superintendent Binta Njie recently in a press briefing informed the media that two suspects between the ages of 20 and 25 have been arrested in connection with the ongoing murder case of a 62-year-old woman at her resident in Bakau, Fajara on the 4th of September 2022.
Speaking to the press, Superintendent BintaNjie commended the police for their swift intervention in the case.
“As the police, we continue to strive to ensure timely response to addressing emergent issues as they arise despite our limited resources,’’ she noted.
PRO Njie renewed The Gambia Police Force’s commitment in protecting the lives and properties of the citizenry and the residents of the country.
She stated that the new doctrine of The Gambia Police Force preaches against all forms of impunity such as “this unfortunate incident’’, he said..
She further commended the community for their collaboration, adding that this showed the important role of community policing in tackling crimes in the community.
PRO Njie on behalf of the police extended their heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family in Bakau.
On the progress of the case, the Deputy Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Thomas RJ Gomez disclosed that some items such as the mobile phones recovered from the scene were helpful in the investigation of the case. He added that progress had been made and the case will soon be at the court.
He appealed to the public to report crimes to the nearest police station if they see any item believed to be stolen from the victim’s house as there might still be some items stolen from the victim’s house.
He cautioned the public from buying expensive items at cheaper prices as such items are mostly stolen properties. He appealed to the vendors in the ‘Black Market’ to always report to the nearest police station whenever confronted with such cases.
The Lead Investigator, Cadet Assistant Superintendent Demba Bah appealed to the public to always come forward with information as information is key in investigations. He added that the police had a breakthrough in the case as a result of the information gathered.
The two suspects are now helping the police in their investigation.
