The activities of the largest global gathering of chemistry talents from 90 countries around the world, the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad 2024, kicks off today, organized by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity "Mawhiba", and in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education and King Saud University, which will host the competitions of this Olympiad, and under the exclusive patronage of the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), and under the patronage and presence of His Excellency the Minister of Education, Mr. Yusuf Al-Benyan, and the Secretary-General of "Mawhiba", Dr. Amal bint Abdullah Al-Hazza.
This edition will witness the participation of 333 talented men and women from all countries, under the direct supervision of 260 specialists in the field of chemistry from different countries of the world, in an exciting race among students to win medals of this international Olympiad, provided that the activities will continue until July 30, with the final results of the competitions to be decided on July 28.
This event, which is organized on an annual basis, is the largest international competition in chemistry for students of general education, having first been launched in 1968 in Prague, the capital of Czechoslovakia. Since then, the competition has been held every year in a different country, for ten days.
Returning to the Saudi participation in this Olympiad.. we find that the Kingdom since 2011 until today has been participating with talented students in various fields.
And the culmination of the creativity of Saudi students in the international arena and their winning of many awards in recent years and in various fields. The organization of the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad was assigned to the Kingdom, as a recognition by the organizers of the merit of Saudi talents, and to enhance the Kingdom's position as a leading global destination in various scientific fields
