The chief of Upper Badibou District in the North Bank Region has suggested to the authorities concerned, through the Public Service Commission (PSC) to introduce Regional District Authority Offices in all the five administrative regions in the country. This, he believes will ensure that the role of the traditional authority is modernised and in tune with current realities.
Alhaji Mustapha Dibba was speaking during the meeting between the Public Service Commissioners and NBR Governor’s staff held on Thursday, August 8th, 2024 at NBR Governor’s office in Kerewan.
The members of the Public Service Commission (PSC) were on a nationwide tour to sensitise regional authorities on the Commission’s roles and mandate and to learn about challenges.
“Regional district authority offices will help chiefs ensure proper records keeping and by extension enhance facilitation of succession from one power holder to another,” Mr Dibba justified.
He lamented the lack of formal handing-over whenever one chief replaces another, emphasizing that formal handing-over is key in their work.
The Upper Badibou chief applauded the Commissioners for their timely visit to the Governor’s Office. He described NBR Governor and staff as unifiers, and thanked them for always involving them on matters of national interest.
He appealed to the PSC Chairman to continue to periodically conduct the outreach programme throughout the country so as to familiarise themselves with what civil servants are facing in their work places.
Deputy Governor, North Bank Region, Mr. Dembo Samateh chaired the meeting, was full of praise for the NBR Technical Advisory Committees (TAC) members and chiefs.
All TAC members were giving opportunity to highlight their achievements, constraints, and recommendations.
In response to the issues raised by the NBR TAC members, the chairman of PSC promised to reach out to the relevant authorities so that their plights can be properly looked into.
Similar engagements were held in the LRR where Commissioner Ganye K.Touray and Kemo Conteh led the team.
Chiefs George L. Sonko of Lower Niumi, Momodou Chatty Cham of Upper Nuimi and Alpha Mariama Khan of Jokadou both hailed PSC and PMO officials for the initiative.
