The Vice President His Excellency Mohammed B.S Jallow, accompanied by Mr. Sanna Dahaba, Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), last week visited the Gambia Red Cross Society’s (GRCS) main headquarters in Kanifing.
The purpose of the visit was for the Vice President to have insight into the GRCS’s ongoing projects, successes, and challenges.
Mr. Fabakary Kalley, President of The Gambia Red Cross Society, expressed gratitude for the visit and highlighted the organization’s current transformative efforts aimed at standardizing its operations.
During the visit, a presentation was delivered on GRCS’s new initiatives such as the establishment of an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), which is envisioned to revolutionise the organisation’s response system by facilitating anticipatory action, allowing for intervention before potential hazards escalate into disasters. The Vice President was also briefed on the G-Plus Emergency Response Services, featuring state-of-the-art ambulances.
A comprehensive tour of the various facilities was conducted, including an inspection of the ambulances and the dispatch centre. The senior administration of GRCS took the opportunity to seek the support of The Gambia Government for their ongoing and future endeavours.
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, Vice President Jallow recognized the efforts of GRCS in humanitarian assistance and assured of continuous support from Government.
The visit underscored the commitment to collaboration between the government and organisations dedicated to humanitarian efforts, emphasising the importance of preparedness and taking proactive measures in disaster response.
