W/Africa Postgraduate College of Pharmacies Set for Annual Scientific Symposium

By Lamin Kujabi

Delegation of West Africa Post Graduate College of Pharmacies paid courtesy call on His Excellency President Adama Barrow last week, ahead of their annual general meeting and scientific symposium in Banjul.
Speaking about the event after meeting the President, Murtada Sesay said the theme of this year’s event is medicine safety. He said they discussed specific issues relevant to The Gambia as a member country.
Mr Sesay said he was very impressed with the President “because he mentioned the need for us to look internally, that we do have resources in our regions, in our countries that we should rely on”.
He made reference to the disastrous event that happened in 2022 in The Gambia, in which seventy children died as a result of Acute Kidney (AKI) Injury. “We as an organisation got involved because we quickly sent two experts in The Gambia to explore and understand the situation. We wrote a position paper which we shared with the government at the time. We now feel that the government has taken the necessary initiative by setting up faculty of pharmacy at the University of The Gambia, and quality assurance laboratory. These steps we think  have followed our intervention and the way forward is more hopeful,” Mr Sesay remarked.
