The World Bank (WB) Country Representative in The Gambia, Madam Feyi Boroffice has revealed that the Bank is preparing a new project that targets the human capital development of The Gambia.
Madam Boroffice said this right after her audience with President Adama Barrow, on Friday October 28th at State House.
The project she explained targets basic and secondary education and higher education, as well as social protection.
“The World Bank is basically engaging on how to work with relevant stakeholders to develop human capital with a holistic solution, by ensuring that Gambian citizens acquire the required skills needed to lay the foundation for job creation in the future”she said.
WB representative revealed that her discussion with the President also touched on the work the World Bank is doing on the foundation level - basic and secondary education, how to leverage some of the works that are being done at the vocational training institute.
She informed that the project is being developed further to improve the lives of vulnerable rural dwellers and improve on the ongoing WB-funded NAFA programme.
“The purpose is to provide skills to the youth so that they can gainfully be employed and create jobs to reduce youth unemployment as well as irregular migration”she stated.
She said the President confirmed that it is in line with the government’s National Development Plan (NDP), and that the Bank is closely working with relevant institutions and partners to align with the government’s goals and aspirations.
