Credit Unionists call on Public Service Minister

Senior management teams from five cooperative credit unions in the country on Tuesday, June 14th made a courtesy call on the Minister of Public Service, Administrative, Reforms, Policy Coordination & Delivery, Baboucarr O. Joof at his office in Banjul.

Speaking at the ceremony, NAC- CUG Board Chairperson, Mrs. Bintou Njie-Sey, who led the delegation informed minister Joof that they were in his office to formally congratulate him on his recent cabinet appointment, and to request for him to serve as the guest speaker for the upcoming National Credit Union Managers and Volunteers’ conference, slated for June 25, 2022.

Madam Njie-Sey and delegation informed Hon. Joof pertinent issues affecting credit unions in The Gambia and the means of resolving them, key among the issues discussed was for the Hon. Minister to champion the course of the credit union movement in the cabinet since he is aware of all the challenges confronting the industry in the country.

The chairman of the meeting, NACCUG General Manager, Mr. Foday Sanyang described the meeting as a family one, noting that Hon. Minister Joof, until his appointment, was one of the top cooperators both nationally and globally. 

In his response, Minister Babucarr O. Joof hailed his comrades for the visit, accepted their request to serve as the guest speaker at the National Credit Union annual convergence and assured the delegation of his Ministry’s unflinching support to the credit union industry in the country.

“My office doors are open for you. Being in Government or being Minister will not deter me from being part of the credit union families in and outside the country,” Minister Joof assured former colleagues.

The various speakers took turns to congratulate Minister Joof and highlighted the importance of credit unions in the socio-economic development of the country.

The visiting delegation comprises of both NACCUG board members and senior management team; General Manager of the Gambia Police Force Cooperative Credit Union; Medical & Health Cooperative Credit Union; NAWEC Cooperative Credit Union; and the acting General Manager of the Gambia Teachers Union Cooperative Credit Union (GTUCCU).
