Defence Minister on Tour, Calls for Strengthened ECOMIG-GAF Partnership

The Minister of Defence, Hon. Sering Modou Njie has joined the Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Yakuba A. Drammeh on a nationwide tour of military installations across the country, including the ECOMIG bases. The tour provides a unique platform for the country’s defence top brass to assess the conditions of the men and women in uniform and to boost morale.

At their first point of call - the ECOMIG Military post in Barra, North Bank Region, the Minister had a lengthy discussion with the officers of the Ghanaian ECOMIG contingent, encouraging them to strengthen partnership with their Gambian counterparts. On behalf of the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Gambia Armed Forces Adama Barrow, Minister Njie extended warmest greetings to the contingent and hailed their efforts in the maintenance of peace and stability in the country.

He has also been commending the Gambian troops for their determination, hard work and commitment to serve the country.

Minister Njie assured of government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of the armed forces while encouraging them to take up the challenge and serve with honour and pride.

The Minister, CDS and delegation have so far visited the Njogon Military Camp, Kerr Pateh Military Post in Kerewan, the Farafenni Military Camp, in the North Bank Region; and Basse Military Camp and Fatoto, in the Upper River Region; Kudang and Pakaliba Military posts, in the Central River Region; and Mansakonko Guard Post, in the Lower River Region.

The team also had meetings with the regional governors and the people of the regions.  

The defence Minister is accompanied by the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Rohie Bittaye Darboe; the Military Assistant to the Minister of Defence, Navy Commander Adama Trawalleh; and the Communication Officer of the Ministry of Defence, Ms. Fatou Sowe.
