FM Tangara Receives ECOWAS Commission President

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Dr. Mamadou Tangara, on Thursday 29th December 2022, received in audience at his office in Banjul, the President of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Dr. Omar Alieu Touray.

On welcoming Dr Touray, Minister Dr. Tangara congratulated him on being sworn in as the new President of the ECOWAS Commission in December 2022 at the 62nd Ordinary Session of the Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government in Abuja, Nigeria, saying it was a day of pride.

FM Tangara wished President Touray all the best during his tour of duty and assured him of his fullest support.

“We are all duty-bound to support you. When you succeed, The Gambia succeeds,” Honorable Tangara said.

Dr. Omar Alieu Touray expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow for the honour, confidence and trust bestowed on him. He thanked Dr. Tangara for the continuous support and warm reception accorded him.

The two sides’ discussions focused on regional integration, peace and security in the region and some key reforms and initiatives in The Gambia including security sector and governance sector reforms. The political area focused on new constitution, transitional justice, implementation of the TRRC recommendation.

President Touray was accompanied to the Foreign Ministry by the ECOWAS Resident Representative in The Gambia, Ms. Miatta Lily French; the Chief of Staff to the President of ECOWAS,  Mr. Abdou Kolley; and the Director of National Early Warning Centre of The Gambia (Under ECOWAS) Mrs. Binta Singhateh Njie.
