A delegation from The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS) recently paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare (MOGCSW)in Kanifing.
The purpose of their visit was to partner with the Ministry in the areas of resource mobilisation and content management on women empowerment and children with special needs amongst others.
Mr Saikou K Sanyang, the Permanent Secretary at MOGCSWwelcomed the team and assured of the Ministry’s unflinching support towards the success of their mission.
He also dilated on the numerous projects and programmes being implemented by the Ministry including the Women Enterprise Fund. He added that the Ministry is rapidly progressing but its interventions are under-reported; hence the need to popularise and display their interventions.
Fatou Sanneh Ceesay, Director of TV Programmes, who led the delegation, posited that since the inception of GRTS, there has been a gender unit that is designed to amplify and popularise content on women, children and vulnerable groups.
“We want to equip the gender unit with the requisite tools that will further popularise the activities and mandate of the unit, in order to promote gender sensitive radio and television programming,” she stated.
This, Madam Sanneh Ceesay noted, was what prompted their mission to the ministry. The discussion was to result in a Memorandum of Understanding to promote partnership between the two institutions to fulfil the missions and visions of the state broadcaster and the Ministry.
Kemo Jatta, Director of Marketing at GRTS said they have series of programmes for promoting the welfare of children and women in the country. “We need collaboration and partnership with the ministry on sponsors and content management,” he affirmed.
Mr Kajali Sonko, DPS Technical, MOGCSW pointed out that this engagement could not have come at a better time, as they are currently considering to roll out documentary for the Ministry.
This documentary, he explained, intends to highlight and display the five years outstanding achievements registered by the Ministry since its establishment in 2019. This, he added will require work with GRTS to develop content on special needs of children and persons with disabilities.
