Incoming Ambassador: China Appreciative of Gambia’s Adherence to ‘One-China’ Policy

On presenting his Letter of Credence to the Gambian Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Mamadou Tangara , the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellence Mr. Liu Jin, reaffirmed China’s appreciation of the bilateral relations, in particular Gambia’s support to it policy of ‘One China.

The Ambassador was at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad in Banjul on Friday, 2nd September 2022 to present his Letter to Dr Tangara.

Further in his post-meeting remarks to the press, Ambassador Liu thanked the Foreign Minister and his team for the warm welcome accorded him. He said: “Our two countries have developed profound political mutual trust, achieved fruitful outcomes in pragmatic cooperation, expanded people-to-people exchanges, and maintained close cooperation on international and regional affairs.”

The Ambassador said is ready to work with The Gambia “to expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation”.

On receiving the letters, Foreign Minister Tangara congratulated and welcomed the Chinese Ambassador and further conveyed willingness to support Ambassador Liu during his tour of duty and to continue to strengthen cooperation with China. He reaffirmed the government’s adherence to the one-China policy.

“The Republic of The Gambia, and the People’s Republic of China nurtured deep friendship and we are deeply grateful for the selfless assistance given by China to The Gambia. China is the key force in upholding multilateralism and China’s development is a blessing for developing countries,” posited Minister Tangara.
