Lands Ministry Wraps Up Technical Review of Draft Strategic Plan

Banjul, 3rd March 2025: The Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs last week completed a five-day technical review of its draft four-year Strategic Plan at SMD Policy Management.

The objective of this technical gathering was to gather the feedback, and incorporate inputs of the participants and discuss the next step which includes validation and printing of final Strategic Plan.

The new Strategic Plan being formulated is to align the ministry’s vision to the National Development Plan, as well as guide the Ministry in making informed decisions, identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in the Ministry. It will also inform the Ministry in setting out proper plans to achieve the Ministry’s goals

As explained in the initial stage by Mr. Sana Darboe, the Chief Executive Officer of SMD Policy Management Group and the consultant for the Strategic Plan Development, the formulation process includes gathering all the relevant documents including the old strategic plans, training of relevant staff as well as getting feedback after the first draft to make sure that all the gaps are covered.

Permanent Secretary, Ebrima Sisawo highlighted the significance of the Strategic Plan in the Ministry’s operations, saying it will provide a sense of direction to operate efficiently. “It will provide us with clear guidance, allowing us to stay focused, operate efficiently, and minimise duplication and waste,” Sisawo said.

Fatou Gibba, the Director of the Department of Community Development under the Ministry said that the Strategic Plan will help the Ministry and its departments to be more proactive.

The establishment of the new strategic plan is part of the ministry’s institutional strengthening to fostering sustainable socio-economic growth, upholding democratic principles and ensuring equitable access to resources. 

The Strategic Plan development started in December 2023 and is now at the review stage after a draft is being produced. The technical review team consists of the senior management of the ministry, representatives from the different directorates of the ministry, representatives from the admin, planning, communications, records as well as accounts and procurement office.
