In an attempt to recognise their contribution to the performance of various fields within the Award Units in the communities’ service delivery, The President’s International Award The Gambia, awarded over 400 participants in West Coast Region at bronze and silver levels. Among them are young people with disability.
They received their certificates for exemplary performance in various fields within their Award Units and the communities.
The awardees were encouraged to be brand ambassadors of the Presidents International Award.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Saikou K. Sanyang, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports explained that the Award Programme is a non-competing individual undertaking where young award participants challenge themselves in the life-changing programme to discover their hidden talents for effective participation in national development.
He noted that it was founded on the key principles of selfless service, adventurous journey, skills enhancement, project execution skills, and sports and recreational undertakings.
“One will therefore imagine what levels of endurance, energy, and self-discipline our young ones will take to complete an 80km Expedition for Gold Level participants. I can confidently say that the Award programme is an achievement and life-changing programme that targets the very cream of our society for the wellbeing of our nations,” he stated.

Award Units involved in this ceremony were: Sukuta Junior and Senior Secondary School, St. Peter’s Junior and Senior Secondary School, Mahad Senior Secondary School, Jamisa Junior, and Senior Secondary School, and Mindaw Junior and Senior Secondary Schools.
A similar awarding ceremony will take place in North Bank Region on the 23rd of June 2022.
