Namie Foundation and MoBSE, in collaboration with the Gambia Teacher’s Union (GTU) on Friday, 5th January 2024, unveiled the winners of The \a press conference held at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Banjul. The announcement marked the conclusion of the first phase, with the second phase involving the assessment of regional winners to determine the national winner.
The initiative aims to acknowledge and reward excellence in education through a rigorous selection process.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS) for Programmes, Mr. Adama Jimba Jobe, emphasised the long-overdue recognition of teachers from regional to national levels, acknowledging the dedication of teachers and expressing gratitude to Namie Foundation and GTU.
The Chairman of the national judges, Mr. Omar J. Ndure, highlighted the event’s significance, saying it fosters collaboration in the education sector. Mr. Ndure expressed the Namie Foundation’s commitment to recognising and rewarding educational excellence, acknowledging the support of GTU and MoBSE. ‘’The Namie Foundation is committed to recognising and rewarding excellence in education, and this press conference marks a pivotal moment in our pursuit of this noble goal. The Namie Foundation could not have done this without the support of The Gambia Teachers Union and MoBSE,’’ Mr. Ndure stated.
Pa Daniel Mendy, Senior Programme Officer at GTU, thanked the Namie Foundation for supporting teachers with prestigious awards and expressed hopes for further expansions in the future, envisioning rewards like fully furnished houses, cars, and scholarships for winners.
The regional winners of the Prize were announced as follows: Mr. Abdourahman Bah (Region 1, Abuko UBS), Mr. Lamin S. Conteh (Region 2, Kabafita UBS/SSS), Mr. Saikou Jallow (Region 3, Kerewan LBS), Mr. Mustapha Jagne (Region 4, Bureng UBS/SSS), Mr. Motala Boye (Region 5 South, Saruja LBS), Madam Fatou F. Kebbeh (Region 5 North, Sare Malaw BCS), and Mr. Mirza Sharif Ahmad (Region 6, Nasir Ahmadiya SSS).
The Gambia Teacher Prize is administered by the Namie Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) and The Gambia Teachers Union (GTU). The Prize celebrates and honours exceptional Basic and Secondary school teachers in all disciplines who have profoundly impacted the lives of their students and the field of education. The initiative aims to recognize and celebrate the remarkable contributions of Gambian educators.
